A Dose Of Love & Sunshine: Four Ways To Handle Stress On The Go!

Since adulting is here and here to stay, I’m learning that I have to find better ways of coping with everyday stresses. Gone are the days when I could skip class and sleep all day (oh, Mum and Dad if you’re reading this, PYYSSCHEE!) But actually, I’m 25 now. So I’m doing my best to be more responsible and not fuss as much. Here’s four ways I'm handling stress on the go.

1. Recognize it!

It's that simple. Acknowledging that a situation is stressful is the first step to overcoming it. Conflicting deadlines at work or a demanding family situation are stressful. However, I’m learning to acknowledge areas in my life that are overwhelming me. Identifying the root of the problem allows us to come up with the right solutions to overcome it.

2. Come up with a plan!

While wallowing in my stresses is comforting (who doesn’t like a good whinge and cry) it can also be unproductive. By all means feel the feels, but don’t get stuck in them. Find time to write down your options and then break them down into action steps and simple tasks you can complete within a specified time frame.

3. Speak to someone/Seek help!

Many times I’ve ran around in circles only to call a friend who’s helped me resolve my seemingly insurmountable issue. A problem shared is a problem halved! Bouncing ideas off other people can allow you to see your present cirumstance from a new angle. Shifting your perspective doesn’t eliminate the stresses at hand, but rather it allows you to see possibilities where you may not have seen any.

4. Breathe!

Stress is part of life. We’re human. We feel overwhelmed. But we also have the capacity to overcome. So keep your head high, count your blessings and keep going. You’re probably doing a lot better than you think you are so take time to give yourself credit for just how far you’ve come.
