How's tricks!! I'm super excited to be sharing this post with you, I've been getting lots of questions on what I apply to my hair daily. In other words, what my daily moisturisation routine is. Now I have this briefly explained on my blog - click here - but I thought I'd get into this topic a little more just to iron out any creases!
Alright, first things first: Why daily? Why moisture? Why not grease?
Good questions! Our hair needs moisture in order to maintain its flexibility. Water is life - not only for our bodies but also for our hair. Flexible hair is less susceptible to breakage. Our hair can lose moisture very fast, particularly when it is exposed to the elements (sun, wind, snow etc) so in order to keep its moisture levels to the max, we need to moisturise our hair at least once a day or every couple of days depending on your hair's needs. Water is the best moisturiser for our hair. Grease aka pomades repel water, so they cannot "moisturise" hair (even if the packaging claims to, don't be fooled girlie!) Light oils work best to seal in moisture without causing unnecessary build-up.

Other than olive oil, what other oils can you use?
Whichever you fancy really - but stick to cold pressed all natural oils with no additives. You may want to try Jojoba, Grapeseed, Argan, Macadamia or Coconut Oil. Stay away from heavy, petroleum-based pomades and artificial oils. See this oil review I did here - I love this product!
Other than water, what other moisture-heavy products can I use?
Again, I'd advise you go for the all natural options! There are many: aloe vera juice, rose water, rice water and diluted apple cider vinegar. Keep it simple, keep it all natural. Most of these naturally-occurring, moisture-rich products are also high in antioxidants so they're generally better for your overall health.
I'd still like to use artificial products, which would you recommend?
To be honest, I'm a huge fan of Shea Moisture products. They have several leave-in lines that you may find really helpful in maintaining your hair's moisture. Kinky Curly Knot Today is another favourite. See how I used it for my natural hair anniversary two years ago - click here!
HOT HAIR TIP: Remember, oil seals in moisture! So apply your moisturising products prior to your sealing products. If you'd like some added lock-in power, add a heavy butter like mango, shea or cocoa butter. Again, all natural is always best! This method is also known as the LOC method - Liquid Oil & Cream method.
