3 Easy Ways To Add Sunshine To Everyday Life!!
I sure do hope that you are keeping well, staying strong, laughing hard, eating healthy...and I dare say, craving yellow! Haha! How corny am I?
Anyhoooo, as you are well aware by now, I am busy adjusting to a brand new life in the land down under. The novelty of my move is sinking in. The excitement of the first few weeks is slowly settling into a warm, joyful feeling in my tummy! Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been all glitter and sparkles, as I shared in my last post here. Relocating to a new country, in many ways, is like having the rug pulled from under your feet. It's easy to tumble and fall, but once you find your balance, the fresh feeling of a brand new start is invigorating!!
I've been exploring Melbourne...feeling its vibrations, listening to its sounds and melodies. I've been smelling...inhaling...taking in deep breaths of its scents and wafts. Melbourne's energy is infectious...!!
I've found three easy ways to add sunshine and sparkle to my everyday life:
1. Smell some roses.
No really. Grab a bunch of roses. Hold them to your nose and inhale. Close your eyes while you're at it. Take in their lovely scent - let it tickle and warm you. Oh the sweetness of roses! Let their innocence refresh and invigorate you. Let your eyes feast on their color - every shadow and highlight, the confidence of old petals against the modesty of young buds. Feel their texture. Velvety and delicate.
2. Have a yummy cup of coffee at an artsy fartsy cafe.
Treat yourself to some delish and delighful coffeyy! From what I've heard, Melbourne is known for its burgers and for its coffee! Check out this post on my date with Ribs & Burgers. Trust me, I too was doubtful at first. Surely, surely!! Melbourne + Coffee? The Kenyan in me would not be intimidated by such audacious claims! But one swig of that black gold had me at conversion. Melbourne's coffeeyy is spiffeeyy and more!
Speaking of artsy fartsy, take in the decor. Melbournians invest in interior design. Everything is effortlessly but deliberately placed to give you a memorable experience. Let your eyes drink of your surroundings. Every item, luxurious yet underspoken.
3. Go window shopping for pretty little things.
With a new move comes the task that is discovering where it is that I'll quench my thirst for all things hair and beauty. Call me vain, but I love to map out my nail spas, massage boutiques and beauty supply stores...it's the funnest treasure hunt of all!
Lucky for me, Melbourne is a beauty miner's delight! I've found some stores, tucked away right in the heart of the city, that have all my essential beauty must-haves! Now, I'm not advocating for a shopping trip that will leave your bank account parched, but rather for one that will excite and tease your imagination. Hey! I'm all about planning for future home decor!
Teas. Did I say teas? I can't obsess over any other drink-a-ball! Oh my! This particular store had it all - from spiced teas, to mesh balls, infusers and (need I say) great customer service! Alice and I spoke for hours. I told her that I had just landed (well not just, but ya get me!) from the US and that this was my 7th move in 7 years. She said she'd love to go to London. I shared my two cents on my experience living in England and we spoke about the arts scene in Melbourne. She's an actress, singer, performing artist and she has the pleasure of working at tea heaven! If I grow up to be half a Melbournian, this life shall have blessed me with more than enough!
Above all, look within.
Everything that we've ever need in life, we have already. We have to believe that to truly soak in the sunshine.
Keep giving thanks. For your heartbeat, for health. For family. For fights with your family. For all the things that make you human.
Love yourself unconditionally.
Be kind to yourself - remind yourself of all the wonderful reasons why you are uniquely you. Wear your favorite piece of jewellery. Throw on some lipstick, or strut it barefaced. You are beautiful. You are sunshine. And this moment. This moment, after all, is your life.
Sending you the brightest rays and (above all) LOVE,
