I hope your Easter weekend is going well? Mine sure is - I'm super excited about today because in exactly SIX DAYS, I'll be getting to meet so many of my readers and members of the Kenyan natural hair community at my Meet and Greet! Wooohoooooo!!!
Trust me, I understand. There's a lot more riding on your decision to go natural than just a few snips of hair. You may be wondering how your friends, loved ones and colleagues may perceive you. You may be unsure about how you'll look with your kinks and curls or you may not want to switch up your aesthetic. You may not want to give up the "ease" of relaxers as you run a hectic schedule and four-hour wash days are not your thing!
Some naturals feel that wigs take away from the whole purpose of embracing our kinks and coils. After all, we went natural to embrace and celebrate our natural aesthetic.Other naturals feel that wigs are a part of Black culture - my grandma wore wigs all the time and had thick GLORIOUS 4 C curls.
Wawili is a Swahili word which means "two people". Wawili Hair is founded by a mother and daughter and as a brand, they're all about celebrating the eternal bond we all share with our mothers - whether they birthed us or simply nurtured us. Wawili hair stands for empowerment, agency and wholesome womanhood.
I don't know about you, but my weekday mornings are pretty hectic. I usually wake up at about 6am and leave my house at 7.45am to get to work by 9am. Guuurrlll...! The #adulting struggle is real! Oftentimes, between a light workout, preparing breakfast and getting changed, I barely have time to do my hair in a complicated style.
Now if you've been around on the blog for a while, you know I love me my wigs. Wigs are bae. I own about 20 wigs *hides face in palms*. Yes, I'm a bit of a wig-head! This unit right here is giving me all sorts of life! This is exactly how it came out of the box, I haven't washed it or styled it in anyway. It's a 360 Frontal and while I still need to put some work into getting the hairline laid, it is very very promising.
I'm just stopping by the blog to let you know I have a YouTube review on this hair. Click here to watch it! I absolutely love this unit - it's my very first Virgin Malaysian Big Body Wave Full Lace Wig so you know your girl had to take 100000 photos! Hahaha!! #VanityIsLife #Jokes
Now, a few days ago, I sat down on my white leather couch and decided to take time to audit my hair journey in 2016. Yep! It’s always important to take some time to see what’s working and what’s not. Here's what I want to do better in 2017 (and I'd love to set some goals with you!)
Wigs are a fantastic way to maintain the health and length of your hair. That said, long, healthy hair is not simply a matter of throwing on a wig and walking out the door, often times, we do need to prepare and maintain our hair over the course of our protective style. Here’s what I recommend:
Now, if you've been reading my blog for a while, you know I like to keep it real. Let's be honest. Embracing our natural curls is not always fun BUT in the long run, it's fulfilling and worthwhile! I truly hope this journey will just be as exciting for you as it’s been for me. Here are four things you can do now to (continue to) succeed in your natural hair journey:
I’ve learnt that I don’t need to “tidy up” my hair in order to “slay”. My journey is ongoing, but this I know will remain true: my value and self-worth does not depend on whether I wear my curls out or wrap them braids or whether I’m in casual jeans or a formal gown. I am beautiful either way.
Styling is made even simpler when we can re-fashion our hair accessories to come up with different looks. I got this particular scarf from H&M and I just love it! It's spirited and colourful and quite versatile. I style it in three ways:
Melbourne's weather is very temperamental and moody. One day it’s raining cats and dogs, the next we’re chilling in the 40’s, and the very next we’re baking in the 100’s. The air here is much drier than it was in Massachussetts. So in turn my hair dries out A LOT faster. Picture a fire in the Sahara, now picture my hair. Yes, that's how bad it’s been.
Heck! Heaven knows it's not always easy to nurture our kinks and curls but I’m glad we’ve got each other’s backs. Right? So in this blog post, I’ll touch on the core areas you asked me about on Instagram. I’ve split them into five main topics. Feel free to scroll down to the section that most applies to you. I’ve also added links to blog posts I’ve written before that you might also find helpful.
Don’t worry, I totally get it! Nurturing our strands can get monotonous and boring after a while (Yep, I said it! Hair blogger and all, I said it!) Look, I’ve been natural for 5 years now and to be honest, my hair journey has not always been one jolly ride.
Today's blog post is short and sweet: I'm letting you in on my newest wig OBSESSION. I received this hair from OMGQueen.com for review and I am honestly impressed. I love kinky hair units that mimic the texture of my blown-out kinks and coils!
I sure do hope you’re keeping well! Happy Sunday (well, at least in Melbourne!) So here I am, sitting on my white leather couch. I’m about to have some brekkie and then have my vitamins. Now like I mentioned in this post here, vitamins have become an essential part of my hair regimen. Here’s why:
So where was I? Yes! Catherine Marion! People. This brand is literally #goals! I've been following their blog for a while so you can only imagine my EXCITEMENT when I finally received their hair products. In my latest Youtube video, I'm giving you the full specs on who they are, why I love their brand, what products they have and why you should bookmark them right away! Feel free to have a suss here!
In today's post I am serving some hot tea! Peoooppllleee! THIS HAIR is not my hair. Hahah! You read that right. This is not my real hair! These are clip-in extensions that I received from Her Given Hair. I've already debuted them on the blog in my Lovisa Wedding Lookbooks. So yes, these are already a staple for me!
Coincidentally, some of the bridal party had a similar look to the one in this post - a top bun capped in a floral headband and some rose-gold hoops. This bubbly ensemble from Lovisa looks great on teens. You may tweak this look for little girls by including the floral headband and exchanging the statement hoops for small gold studs! Either way, this look is a win!
This Lovisa wedding-inspired look is especially for best friends who become maids of honour . The halo of flowers, white choker and double gold ring set are simple, contemporary and glamorous. Airy, angelic and bohemian, this look is perfect for a summer-y garden wedding!
But, being that 'tis the season for wedding bells, I thought I'd put together a bridal lookbook with some of my favourite pieces from Lovisa. Now if you've been following me for a while you know Lovisa accessories are my guilty pleasure! Unwinding on a Saturday afternoon means stopping by their store at Melbourne Central and drooling over their jewellery! #ShamelessConfession
So this HAAAIIRRR!!! Can we just have a hallelujah! Gorgeous doesn't even begin to describe it! This right here is perfection! I received this Haute Coils Unit from Haute Kinky Hair and I am beyond impressed. It's bouncy and bold and fulfils every curly girl's DREAM!
Thanks for dropping by! I'm super stoked to be sharing this post with you - its been really fun styling these clip-in extensions that I received from Irresistible Me! When I first opened the box, I was a bit taken aback by how silky this hair is! It's super luxurious and thick and these wefts will last me a lifetime! Haha!
